About the Programme

General Information:

Occupational health and safety (OHS) practices aim to eliminate occupational accidents and occupational diseases in workplaces, ensure the continuity of production and increase workplace efficiency. Studies in the field of occupational health and safety in our country gained momentum with Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331, which was enacted in 2012. This law created a need for qualified personnel to work in the field of OHS in workplaces. Graduates of the Occupational Health and Safety associate degree programme receive the title of technician and are also entitled to take the occupational safety specialist examination. Since occupational health and safety practices do not have a long history and cover al workplaces in both the public and private sectors, there is a significant employment gap in this field. Occupational Health and Safety is a multidisciplinary field that incorporates many disciplines such as engineering, physics, chemistry, ergonomics, law and communication. The aim of this programme is to educate graduates who will work in the field of OHS and possess the qualifications, professional knowledge and experience required under contemporary conditions through modern educational methods.

To become a nationaly and internationaly recognised programme that serves as an example in the field of occupational health and safety. By producing high-standard and high-quality course content and providing quality education in Occupational Health and Safety, the programme aims to serve as a model for future occupational health and safety curricula and to become one of Türkiye’s leading and respected Occupational Health and Safety programmes. Within this scope, we aim to add value to occupational health and safety practices in our country by educating occupational health and safety professionals who specialise in the field, possess knowledge and experience, understand professional ethical values and remain committed to these values.

Mission:

To educate individuals with critical and creative thinking skills by providing human-centred education in the light of scientific and technological developments through contemporary educational methods and standards. The programme also aims to contribute to workplace well-being and to developments in occupational health and safety in our country by educating human resources with the professional knowledge and experience required in this field. Within this scope, the programme provides scientific, up-to-date and enriched course content through its carefully designed curriculum; educates individuals who can interpret knowledge from different perspectives and become influential professionals in their fields; and equips them with the ability to analyse and continuously renew the knowledge they acquire through a multidimensional approach.

Objectives of the Occupational Health and Safety Programme:

To educate innovative and entrepreneurial professionals who possess the competencies and advanced skills expected of them in the field of occupational health and safety.
To educate professionals who cooperate at national and international levels, follow professional and sectoral developments, adapt to change and contribute to scientific and cultural exchange.
To contribute to society individuals who do not avoid assuming responsibility in professional and social fields.
To educate a workforce that adheres to ethical values and can assume responsibility and take initiative in light of the knowledge acquired.

Targets of the Occupational Health and Safety Programme:

To provide students with the competencies required to offer consultancy and guidance in the field of occupational health and safety in professional life.
To provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge and skills that enable them to understand the occupational health and safety dynamics of different sectors and work effectively in these fields.
To increase students’ experience and professional readiness through professional practice courses and technical visits.
To encourage participation in national and international events such as seminars, congresses, professional competitions, summits and meetings, and to help students develop the habit of following innovations and professional and technical developments in their fields.
To raise awareness of social problems, develop solutions and carry out community service projects together with our stakeholders.

About the Courses

The curriculum of the Occupational Health and Safety Programme has been prepared by taking into consideration both the knowledge students will use in professional life and the content of the specialist examination they will take after graduation. In addition to departmental elective courses, students may improve themselves in different areas through elective courses offered outside the department. Through the internships they complete during their education, students are prepared for professional life before graduation.

Career Opportunities

Graduates of the Occupational Health and Safety Programme may be employed as “Occupational Health and Safety Technicians” in workplaces operating in different sectors. Graduates who successfully complete the specialist examination held after graduation may work as “Occupational Safety Specialists.” Graduates may work as occupational safety specialists in workplaces in various areas of the public and private sectors, particularly construction, automotive, metal, mining, textile, healthcare and education.
