The aim of the programme is to educate supporting healthcare personnel needed in procedures carried out under the supervision of physicians for the use of X-rays in the diagnosis of diseases. The programme aims to educate qualified radiology technicians who possess the knowledge and skills required to prepare patients for examinations involving ionising and non-ionising radiation for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases; obtain images using medical imaging devices such as conventional and digital radiography, fluoroscopy, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, PET-CT and ultrasonography; prepare films and images for use; and perform the inspection and maintenance of devices and equipment.
Graduates of this programme may work in units such as computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, mammography and ultrasonography; in the preparation and operation of equipment used for patients receiving radiation therapy; and in various units of nuclear medicine departments.
The curriculum of the Medical Imaging Techniques Programme consists of courses that provide knowledge applicable at every stage of professional life in radiology. The principal courses include Radiological Imaging Techniques, Physics, Infectious Diseases, Anatomy, Medical Terminology, Radiation Safety and Radiation Protection, and Parenteral Applications.
