A significant part of the education consists of administering subjective and objective hearing and balance tests considered necessary for diagnosing patients with hearing and balance disorders in the ENT departments of hospitals, as well as learning the operating principles and fitting procedures of hearing aids and cochlear implants through cooperation with hearing aid and cochlear implant companies. The education of children with hearing impairments also holds an important place in the training of audiometry technicians. This programme, which aims to educate audiometry technicians equipped with the testing knowledge and skills required in the field of hearing and balance disorders in both private and public healthcare sectors, also seeks to provide students with professional knowledge and skills, effective verbal communication abilities, teamwork skills, and the ability to identify and solve problems. The testing methods practised in hospitals and the one-month summer internships completed at the end of both the first and second academic years enable students to gain professional experience before entering working life. The aim of the Audiometry Programme is to educate healthcare personnel at the vocational school level who are capable of identifying hearing and hearing-related disorders. Students wishing to enrol in the Audiometry Programme should be aware that they will work directly with patients in a field related to human health. Patient relations require particular care, precision and patience. Since audiology is a new and rapidly developing field of science, those who choose this profession should have a high level of professional motivation and enthusiasm for research.
Graduates of this programme may work as “Audiometry Technicians” in hospitals and private clinics under the supervision of an ear, nose and throat specialist and an audiologist, whr they conduct hearing measurements and administer differential diagnostic tests. Programme graduates may work in the audiology clinics of public or private hospitals under the supervision and control of an audiologist or an ear, nose and throat specialist. They may administer hearing tests to newborn babies in maternity clinics and conduct hearing screening tests in schools. In addition, considering the increasing need for audiometry technicians in hearing aid and cochlear implant distribution companies and audiological diagnostic centres, graduates may also find employment in such private institutions.
Students enrolled in this programme follow a two-year educational programme consisting of theoretical courses and practical applications in order to administer audiometric tests used for hearing assessment and contribute to the accurate diagnosis of patients. In addition to core courses such as Hearing and Measurement, Objective Test Methods, Audiometric Tests for Children with Atypical Development, Hearing Loss and Its Causes, Anatomy and Physiology of Hearing and Speech, Physics of Sound and Acoustic Principles, Fundamentals of Audiology, Paediatric Audiological Test Methods, Vestibular System Test Methods and Advanced Test Methods in Audiometry, students also take courses such as Developmental Psychology, Psychology, First and Emergency Aid, Professional Ethics, Quality and Accreditation in Healthcare, and Professional English.
